The meaning of the LST EN 71-1 standard, why is it needed:

LST EN 71-1 is a European standard that establishes mechanical and physical safety requirements for toys. It is part of the EN 71 series, which regulates toy safety in Europe.

The standard is necessary for:

  • Ensuring children's safety – The standard helps protect children from potential hazards such as small parts, sharp edges, dangerous mechanisms, or accidental injuries.
  • Ensuring toy quality and reliability – It sets requirements for toy design and materials to meet safety criteria.
  • Regulating manufacturing and trade – Manufacturers, importers, and retailers must ensure that their toys comply with this standard to be sold in the EU market.
  • Meeting legal requirements – Compliance with EN 71-1 is essential to fulfill the European Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and to label toys with the CE marking.

LST EN 71-1 standard applies to:

  1. Toys for infants and young children (rattles, teethers, toy phones);
  2. Construction and creative toys (building blocks, puzzles, modeling clay);
  3. Vehicles and movement toys (tricycles, scooters, roller skates);
  4. Dolls and figures;
  5. Educational and interactive toys (electronic toys, educational computers);

  8. Soft and fabric toys;
  9. Thematic and role-playing sets (children’s kitchens, toy irons, vacuum cleaners).

LST EN 71-1 standard does not apply:

  1. Sports equipment;
  2. Decorative and collectible items;
  3. Musical instruments;
  4. Baby care products
  5. Household appliances with a real function.
